Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 11:45 am: Brandon has a new favorite nurse named Matt. This is because Matt took out the last remaining tube, the catheter. He is now restraint-free, tube-free and drug-free, and he is lovin' it! They are giving him a mild sedative to help with his agitation, but other than that, he is off all medications. Yeah!
He slept pretty good after the busy day he had yesterday. He woke up around four am and pointed to the bathroom. So the nurses got him up and he went to the bathroom. This is quite an accomplishment since I was told that it usually takes 1-2 weeks to regain bowl control like that.
He took a shower for the first time in a week and a half today and then got dressed and brushed his teeth, all with very little help. After that, he took a little cat nap and then it was down to physical therapy. He walked about 200 feet using the parallel bars. Now it's time for another little nap and then it's lunch time.
He was talking to his father-in-law, Jason yesterday and when he asked Brandon what he was doing and he said, "Not a dang thing." (only he used a more colorful adjective.) However, they will keep him pretty busy here from now on out. The doctor said the goal is to have him out of here in 2 weeks. Knowing Brandon's persistence, (the nurse said that's a better word to use than stubbornness) he'll be out a little sooner.
